The merry tribe who let themselves be guided by Edouard on Saturday discovered these streets laid out by Jules Hardouin-Mansart and André le Nôtre as a mirror of the castle. The incredible Versailles of the 17th and 18th century came back to life thanks to Edouard’s fascinating tale : the lively market, the unexpected barracks of the carrés st Louis, the King’s vegetable garden with its pineapples, the procession of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette in 1789 to the Cathedral, the epic of the statue of Louis XIV by Bernini, the libertine in some wealthy mansions and even how the coolers of Versailles provided ice all year round to make sorbets at the court on summer days!
