The gardens of the Château de Fontainebleau have changed a lot over the centuries!
At the end of the 16th century, Henri IV had the pond garden built. It was a very private garden, which was accessed by a wooden footbridge on one of its sides. This garden lasted until the time of Louis XIV, then the pond regained its Renaissance dimensions. One can still see the trace of its foundations at the bottom of the pond when observing a satellite image.
